Hi I Have 3 microSD cards with Linaro nano, Linaro Alip and Linaro ubuntu. I\\\'ve installed them from this page: http://releases.linaro.org/images/ I\\\'m trying to use serial port connection. Previously, I have used it succesfully with Ubuntu 9.04 distribution and J960 connector (the serial ports are /dev/ttyS0 for UART1 and /dev/ttyS2 for UART3). Also I know that if I want to use UART1 as a RS232 instead of RS485 I must follow some steps that appear on the HW manual in ubuntu distro. But,is there any special feature in Linaro distribution? I wrote the command dmseg | grep tty* and this is the output:
console [tty0] enabled omap_uart.0: ttyO0 at MMIO 0x4806a000 (irq = 72) is a OMAP UART0 omap_uart.1: ttyO1 at MMIO 0x4806c000 (irq = 73) is a OMAP UART1 omap_uart.2: ttyO2 at MMIO 0x49020000 (irq = 74) is a OMAP UART2 console [ttyO2] enabled omap_uart.3: ttyO3 at MMIO 0x49042000 (irq = 80) is a OMAP UART3
Also I\\\'ve tried to debug those serial ports with putty and minicom, but the only port that works is ttyO2, and only sending data, not receiving. What I must do? I\\\'m not a linux expert, so could you explain your answers in detail. Thanks

Hi! I\\\'m also working with nano and alip (linaro) distributions, and I think that I\\\'m having the same problem as you. I\\\'m able to communicate with UART0 (ttyO0) sending and receiving data, previously configuring:
echo 0x007 > /sys/kernel/debug/omap_mux/uart1_cts echo 0x007 > /sys/kernel/debug/omap_mux/uart1_rts
But when I tray with UART3 (tty02) I\\\'m only able to send data, I cant receive any. Is there something else I have to configure? Thanks

Hi, In order to use UART3, you need stop it being used at the output port for debugging. To do this: - take your SD card out of the IGEP board - put it into another computer - open the \\\'boot\\\' partition - open the \\\'igep.ini\\\' file - find the line which says \\\"console=ttyS2\\\"... and comment it out (put a ; in front of the line) - save the file - unmount the SD card - put it back in your IGEP and start it up You should now be able to use minicom to access /dev/ttyS2. Test it by linking pins 2 and 3 on your J960 connector and seeing if the characters you type get echoed back to you. Note: you will no longer be able to see the start up over serial. To get it back, just uncomment the line in igep.ini Cheers, Tom

There is no igep.ini file at my boot partition. Im using original Linaro image. If i try to add this file by myself, then all settings will be ignored on booting this image.

I\\\'m sure there is a better way, but if you get desperate you can use the IGEP kernel with a Linaro head (looks the same, but getting peripherals to work is much easier!). Either follow http://labs.igep.es/index.php/How_to_bo ... croSD_Card or have a look at http://tstur.com/2011/10/tutorial-on-ge ... inaro.html for how I did it (step by step including all the essentials) Oh and if you want to use the other UARTs (1,2,3) check out my other post: http://tstur.com/2011/10/getting-uart-1 ... rk-in.html It all assumes that you have the IGEP Kernel though.

thank you for your quick answer, aurum87, but, do you have changed your mind? Two posts ago you wrote about the igep.ini file. Before i will take a look to other methods, why the igep.ini file doesnt work?

I have used the unchanged Linaro Micro-SD card from IGEP shop. I have also tried it with the linaro image from here: http://labs.igep.es/index.php/How_to_ge ... stribution if i will copy the igep.ini file to the boot partition, then resolution is not changed. If i will copy the precompiled IGEP-X-Loader (MLO file only) from here: http://labs.igep.es/index.php/The_IGEP_X-loader to the boot partition, then i will get message \\\"Kernel not found\\\" at next boot from this SD card.

Hi Vendetta, The instructions at How_to_get_the_Linaro_distribution use the Linaro kernel, not the IGEP kernel. Whenever posting on these forums, people usually assume you are using the IGEP Kernel. To get this: 1) Install the IGEP kernel by following the instructions at: http://tstur.com/2011/10/tutorial-on-ge ... inaro.html Do it from scratch, reformatting the card, etc. 2) Then do the following steps to get the UARTs working: http://tstur.com/2011/10/getting-uart-1 ... rk-in.html I did exactly that last week and it worked perfectly. Cheers, Tom

Boah, it seems there is really no solution to work with linaro.
